  Immunizations

Indiana Law requires that students have an up-to-date immunization record on file, complete with month, day, and year of each vaccine.  This is required for enrollment.  It is requested that whenever you update your child's immunization record, a copy be sent to the school nurse.

1. Are there any new required immunizations for the 2015-2016 school year?
Yes. All students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade are required to have two (2) appropriately administered doses of varicella vaccine, or evidence of immunity. The first dose must be administered on or after the 1st birthday. Doses of varicella must be spaced at least 28 days apart and given at least 28 days after any other live virus vaccine if not administered on the same day.

2. Are there any new recommended immunizations that are not required for school entry for the 2015 – 2016 school year?
Yes. There are several vaccinations included on the schedules that are not required for school entry this year. These recommendations include 2 doses of Hep A vaccine for kindergarten entry and the meningococcal booster dose for students in grades 11 & 12 (if the first dose was received prior to the student’s 16th birthday) for the 2015-2016 school year. These vaccinations are strongly recommended by the IN State Department of Health (ISDH) in anticipation of inclusion with school entry requirements for the 2015-2016 school year.

To document history of chickenpox disease for a student entering preschool, kindergarten or 1st grade, a signed statement by a health care provider including date of disease is required.  For children entering grades 2-12, documentation from a parent, including date of disease, parent signature and date of signature is required.

Immunizations can be given by appointment at your child's physician's office or by contacting the Marion County Health Department at 317-221-3441 (Georgetown WIC office at 3974 Georgetown Road).
